Bernard J. Lieser
July 9, 1910 – July 29, 2012

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at St. Martin Church in St. Martin for Bernard J. Lieser, age 102, who died on July 29, 2012 at the Sterling Park Health Care Center in Waite Park, where he lived for the past 6 years. Burial will be in the St. Martin Parish Cemetery.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the St. Martin Parish Center. Parish prayers will be at 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m. on Thursday at the parish center.
Bernard Lieser was born to Joseph and Theresia (Hemmesch) Lieser on July 9, 1910 in Zion Township, Stearns County, MN and attended District #63 school. He married Caroline Garding on September 23, 1934 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Lake Henry. They farmed 3 miles west of St. Martin, and belonged to St. Martin’s Parish in St. Martin, where Bernard served as an usher, lector, Eucharistic minister, and rosary leader. They retired from farming and moved to St. Martin in 1969. Over the years, he served on the District #63 School Board, on Farmers Union Board and was a member of 4th Degree Knights of Columbus where he served a term as Faithful Navigator. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council 3820, Catholic Aid Association (Catholic United Financial), St. Joseph Men’s Society and the Crosier Apostolate. He enjoyed visiting, singing German songs, traveling, dancing to old time music, playing cards, and gardening.
He is survived by his children, Stanley (Bertha) of Weslaco, Texas, Rev. Gregory of Sauk Rapids, Bernie (Larry) Gresko of Long Beach, CA, Rev. Vincent of Melrose, Hubert (Agnes) of St. Martin, Colette Petitt of Waynesboro, VA and Issy (Alvina) of Waite Park, 22 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren, and one sister Sr. Bernard, OSB (Marie) of Cottonwood, Idaho, brother-in-law Ray Worms, sister-in-law Theresa Lieser.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Caroline, brothers and sisters, Katie (Peter) Mandernach, Amalia (Math) Stang, Berthold (Arcella), Alfred (Juletta), Sr. Josephine, OSB (Anna), Roman, Sr. Petronilla, OSB (Cecilia), and Frances Worms, granddaughter Doris Dingman and son-in-law Charles Petitt.

What a great man Mr. Lieser must have been to have raised such a wonderful daughter, Colette. May your sweet memories carry you through this time of loss.
