March 18, 1914 – October 14, 2010

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 18, 2010 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville for Caroline C. Klein, age 96, of Paynesville, who passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2010, at Pine Haven Nursing Home in Melrose. Reverend Glenn Krystosek will officiate. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday and after 10:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. The Daughters of Isabella will pray at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church. Arrangements are with the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville.
Caroline was born on March 18, 1914 in Granville, Iowa to Gregor and Mary (Rieth) Penning. She married Joseph A. Klein on January 5, 1937 in Granville, Iowa. They lived in Hospers, IA one year, Sibley, IA seven years and Ashton, IA until 1959 when they moved to Paynesville, MN. She was a nurse’s aide at the Koronis Manor for over 25 years. Caroline was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella.
She was an accomplished seamstress as well as talented in crocheting, and making quilts. Caroline also enjoyed going to auctions and refurbishing furniture. She was well known for her freshly baked bread. Caroline especially loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Elizabeth Klein of Carson City, NV, Eva Sartell of Minong, WI, Mary E.(Tony)Gruenes of Spring Hill, Kay (Dick) Tougas of New York Mills, Laura (Ken) Pike of Robbinsdale, Marguerite (Ron) Bell of Coconut Creek, FL, and Amy (Steve) Parker of Arizona City, AZ; 29 grandchildren; 72 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; brother and sister, Andrew (Vitalena) Penning of Granville and Angeline Goebel of Worthington, MN; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband in 1974; son-in-laws, Norman Lenz and Ron Sartell; great grandson, Broc Tougas; and eleven brothers and sisters.

My mom (Mary Stremlau (Klein))always thought so much of Caroline. I am going to try to get to the visitation & funeral from Rockford, IL. I know Mom would want me to be there.
