Daniel W. Bottema

Private Memorial services were held for Daniel William Bottema age 70 of Clearwater, MN who passed away peacefully with his wife and daughter at his side on Monday, July 29, 2013 at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center. The Reverend Terry Langford officiated. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Little Falls, MN.

Dan was born on January 16, 1943 in Waterloo, IA, the son of Albert W. and Esther A. (Klein) Bottema. He grew up in the Waterloo, IA and Big Lake, MN areas. After school he worked various odd jobs until he enlisted into the U.S. Navy on March 6, 1963. He served his country during the Vietnam Conflict as an Engineman third class serving aboard the U.S.S. Cambria in the Mediterranean Sea. He was Honorably Discharged on May 6, 1966.

After his military service, Dan went to work for Midland Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator and also worked driving a truck over the open road for Midland Construction Company.

He was married on December 28, 1979 to Vicky L. Wiech in Big Lake, MN. He then worked operating heavy equipment setting up power lines and poles across the state of Minnesota for Collins and Donovan Construction, and retired in 2001.

In his spare time, Dan loved to tinker with building trailers, picnic tables and just overall fixing things in general. He was a past member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Clearwater, was a past commander of the Clearwater American Legion Post 323 where he was still a member and also Eastside V.F.W. Post # 4847 in St. Cloud. He was a member of the Police Advisory Committee for the city of Becker and was a member of the Clearwater Lion’s Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Bottema and an infant brother.

He is survived by his wife Vicky and daughter Teresa Tschida both of Clearwater, MN, <a href="http://www.saint-gilles35.fr/includes/_gestionaphehtml.asp">replique montre</a>a son Shawn (Diane) Koester of Vancouver, WA, four grandchildren, Jillian, Nicolette, Caitlyn, and Dylan, one sister Carol Flynn of Monticello, MN, two brothers Ronnie Bottema of Monticello and Leonard (Cathy) Bottema of Austin, MN, his two godsons Terry Bottema and Danny Flynn, several other nieces and nephews, a very special cousin Ann (Phil) Frischman, other relatives and many friends.
