David L. Gruber
September 4, 1933 – April 15, 2008

Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of David L. Gruber, age 74, of St. Cloud will be at 10:30 am on Friday, April 18, 2008 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. David died on April 15, 2008 at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. The Rev. Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery.
Family and friends may call between 4-8 pm on Thursday (TODAY) at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 9:30 am on Friday at the church. Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 622 will meet at 6:30 pm on Thursday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud followed by the parish prayers at 7 pm.
David was born on September 4, 1933 in Paynesville, MN to Michael L. and Ida (Jaeger) Gruber. He married Bonita “Nita” G. Rieland on Sept. 4, 1956 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spring Hill, MN. He has been a resident of St. Cloud since 1969 where he was employed by Electrolux for 38 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of St. Anthony’s parish, past member of the Holy Name Society, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 622, the St. Joseph Rod and Gun Club and the Machinists Union Local # 623.
David will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved to hunt and fish. His humor and wit will be missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years Nita, sons Keith (Mary) of St. Joseph and Kellen (Lori) of Avon; grandchildren: Jenny (John) Oien, Erin (Gary) Dobmeier, Megan, Travis and Linsey Gruber, great granddaughter Allie Oien; brother and sisters: Michael N. of Belgrade, Erma (Jim) Rieland of St. Cloud, Pat Wensman of Paynesville, Delores (Hub) Sunderman of Melrose, and Lenora (Eddie) Kampsen of Litchfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, great grandson Luke Oien, brothers Urban and Marcellus, sisters Florence DeMorett, Bergetta Lieser, Virginette Whitney, and Shirley Gruber.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
David’s family wishes to thank Dr. Hauge and staff at the Cancer Center and the Hospice Home Care Program for the fine care they provided David.

David was one of the nicest, kindest, funniest, and happiest people we have ever known. We are privileged to have known David, honored to be his friend, and grateful to be treated as part of his family. We will remember David always with love and as a model of righteousness.
