Dolores B. Meyer

Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Dolores B. Meyer, age 79, of St. Joseph will be at 10:30 am on Monday, June 2, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph, MN. Dolores died on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the St. Cloud Hospital. The Rev. Joseph Feders, OSB will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call between 4-8 pm on Sunday and after 9 am on Monday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Joseph, MN. St. Joseph Senior Citizens and the Council of Catholic Women will pray at 4:30 pm on Sunday at the funeral home in St. Joseph followed by St. Joseph parish prayers at 6 pm.

After graduating from St. Benedict’s High School, Dolores worked at Fandel’s Department Store. She married Leander Meyer on May 20, 1947 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. For 25 years she and Leander farmed together and raised their family. In May, 2007, their children, relatives and friends helped them celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. Dolores was a lifelong resident of St. Joseph prior to moving to Carefree Living in January 2007. 

Dolores lived a life of exemplary service to her family, church and community. She was a member and held leadership positions in the Christian Mothers Group, St. Gerard’s Mission Group, and the Catholic Aid Society. She chaired multiple committees for the annual parish festival. Dolores was also an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She was a founding member of the St. Joseph Parish Quilting Group, which she chaired for ten years from the group’s inception in 1986. She enjoyed gardening, square dancing and 20 years wintering in Arizona with Leander.

Dolores is survived by her husband Leander of St. Joseph; daughters Kathleen of St. Joseph, Rita of North Oaks, and Helen (Bill) of Edina, sons David (Debbie) of White Bear Lake, John (Rose) of St. Joseph, James (Sue) of St. Joseph, and Paul (Chris) of Plymouth; sister Rosemary Warnert of California; and brothers Jerome Bechtold of Rockville, Philip Bechtold of California, Cletus Bechtold of St. Joseph and Alphonse Bechtold of Popple Creek, 14 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two infant siblings and her parents, Clara and Albert Bechtold.

Dolores will be remembered for her strong and gentle spirit; she endured a lengthy battle with post-polio lung disease and debilitating osteoporosis. Her family wishes to thank her many caregivers, especially the staff at Carefree Living.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
