August 30, 1927 – August 6, 2011

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring for Dolores K. Trettel, age 83, of Cold Spring, who passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Reverend Cletus Connors, OSB, will officiate. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Church in Cold Spring. Parish prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home in St. Cloud.
Dolores was born on August 30, 1927 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Math and Elizabeth (Lahr) Scherer. She graduated from St. Benedicts High School in 1945 and then entered the Cadet Nurses Corps. She graduated from St. Gabriel School of Nursing in 1948. Dolores married James C. Trettel on August 25, 1949 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph. She worked as a Nurse at Holy Cross Hospital in Chicago until her retirement. Dolores belonged to St. Boniface Catholic Church and Christian Mothers, the Cold Spring V.F.W Post #6915 Auxiliary and the American Legion Post #455 Auxiliary, the Eagles Aerie #622 Auxiliary, and was past President of the Rocori Sr. Citizens Board.
She enjoyed playing cards, trips to the casino, bingo, and traveling. Dolores especially treasured the time spent with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Mary Beth, Carol (Joe) Koziolczyk, Jean (Pat)Kilcoyne, Kathy (Miguel) Portilla; grandchildren, Patrick (Gina), Christopher, Jillian, and Megan; brothers and sisters, Marcy Rueter, Alcuin Scherer, Elmer (Genny) Scherer, Fran Scherer, Jenny (Linus) Kalthoff, Veronica Adelman, and Helen (Ken)Heinen; sister -in-law, Margaret Scherer; and many nieces and nephews.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1982; brothers and sisters, Cyril Scherer, and Bernelda (Rod) Lenzmeier; sisters-in law Vera Scherer, Marlys Scherer; brothers-in-law, Julius Rueter, and Irvin Adelman.
Memorials are preferred to the Cold Spring V.F.W Post #6915 or American Legion Post# 455.
Due to family allergies the family requests that no lilies be sent.

Dear Jean, Pat, Mary Beth, Carol, Kathy and family: I am so sorry for your loss. My prayers and deepest sympathy are with you all. I wish I could be with you during this time to lend my support. Your mom was a wonderful and generous woman who always made me a part of the family. Stay strong for each other and know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Our sincere condolences on the passing of your Mom. She was a warm and gracious lady and that is reflected in you. Nothing we can say will ease your pain but want you to know you are both in our thoughts and prayers.
It is always so hard to say good-by to someone who has been at the center of your family your whole life. Your mom was your friend, your cheerleader, your confidante, and so much more. I will pray for you as you journey through the next weeks and months of loss.
