Donald A. Mohs
January 29, 1926 – April 5, 2012

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at St. Mary’s Cathedral Lower Church in St. Cloud for Donald A. Mohs, 86, of Waite Park and formerly of Avon, who passed away on Thursday at his home with family by his side. Reverend Scott Pogatchnik will officiate. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, St. Cloud.
Family and friends may call after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.
Donny was born on January 29, 1926 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Mathew N. and Florentine (Zins) Mohs. He graduated from Tech High School in 1944. He married Phyllis T. Stafford on May 21, 1951 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Donny was employed by and later owned the family business started by his father, Quality Coal & Oil Company in St. Cloud. Donny and Phyllis raised their children in St. Cloud, moved to Avon where they lived until recently moving to Waite Park. After retiring, Donny continued his passion of fishing at his lake home on Upper Spunk in Avon with family and friends. Donny was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral, the St. Cloud Knights of Columbus Council #961 and the Eagles Aerie #622.
Many family, friends and customers enjoyed Donny’s quick wit and sense of humor. He was known for his positive outlook and optimism and will be remembered for his caring and sincerity.
Donny is survived by his wife of 60 and a half years, Phyllis of Waite Park; children, Daniel (Carolee) of St. Cloud, Elizabeth Mohs (fiancé George Willenbring) of Rice, Richard (Liz) of Avon, Catherine Mohs (fiancé Marc Spoden) of Cold Spring, Barbara Mohs of St. Cloud; grandchildren, Amanda (TJ Tyson), Drew and Beth Mohs; great grandchildren, Jazelle and Jalayna Tyson; and brother and sisters, Kathleen (Joe) Zappa of Maplewood, Marilyn (Kirk) Carson of Onalaska, WI, Albert (Coral) Mohs of St. Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gerald; and brothers and sister, Mathew E. and Robert Mohs and Joan Leisen.
A special thank you to Wanda, Betty, and Cathy J., along with the entire staff of the St. Cloud Hospital Hospice.
Memorials are preferred.
