Doreen E. Honer

Doreen Honer, age 86, of St. Joseph died Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Serenity Village in Avon after a 3-year battle with cancer.

Doreen Elizabeth Honer was born on October 1, 1940, in St. Joseph, Minnesota to Alphonse and Clara (Schefers) Stueve. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1958.

On June 20, 1962, Doreen married Wayne Norbert Honer at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph, MN. Together, they built a home in rural St. Joseph, raising four children. They were married for 50 years until Wayne’s death in 2013.

Wayne and Doreen owned and operated H & R Block Tax Service in Waite Park and St. Cloud for 35 years. She was a stay-at-home mother and later joined Wayne at the office. Her dedication and patience helped the business be successful.

Wayne and Doreen enjoyed retirement by taking vacations around the country and spending time at Beaver Lake. At home, Doreen loved making crafts such as painting statues, cross stitching, and making wreath and flower arrangements. Her favorite store was Crafts Direct. She loved puzzles and watching the Hallmark Channel. Her favorite time was sitting on the deck with a cup of coffee and watching the birds. Doreen was a very kind, loving, and giving person. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Doreen is survived by her children, Brad (Paula) of Rogers, Scott (Toni) of St. Cloud, Karla of St. Cloud, and Deonne (Joe) Stangle of Sartell; Grandchildren, Donna (Matt) Bauer, Ava (Jacob) Kruize, Rainna (Jackson) Michaels, and Rachel; brothers and sisters, Dorothy Merten, Alice (George) Westerhoff, Melvin Stueve, Jim (Kathy) Stueve, Don (Deb) Stueve, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Dennis Stueve; brother-in-law, Don Merten, and sister-in-law, Lizz Stueve.
The family extends a warm “thank you” to the Coborn’s Cancer Center, Dr. Pelzel from Cardiology, St. Croix Hospice Care, and all the staff at Serenity Village in Avon for the compassionate care they gave Doreen during these difficult times.

At Doreen’s request, no memorial services will be held at this time. Interment will be held at a future date with immediate family.
