Gone From My Sight

I am standing upon the seashore
A ship at my side spread her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says; “There, she is gone!”

“Gone where?” Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says, “There, she is gone!” There are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout;
“Here she comes!”
And that is dying.

Joyce. Elmer will be close to you when you look for him, and sometimes even when you are not looking for him.
God’s peace. Lance.

Our condolences we will keep Elmer and your family in our prayers.

Tim

Hi Joyce, I used to work with you at SCSU back in 1993-94. I just wanted to send you my condolences and to let you know that I am thinking of you at this time. I wish you well and hope you find strength in God.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Joyce and the rest of the family for your great loss. Elmer was well-liked and always made an effort to say ‘hi’ at family functins. He will be greatly missed!

Elmer sounds like he led a full life and will be missed!

Joyce and family–We are so deeply saddened to hear of your loss. Elmer was such a wonderful uncle and was so loved by all who knew him. I take comfort in knowing my mom will be celebrating her 84th birthday tomorrow with her loving brother Elmer in heaven. Our thoughts are with you. We love you all! Jack and Polly Jaeger

We will miss you, Elmer. You always added humor, intelligence, and good graces to our lives. God bless you in your new heavenly home.
