Francis (Frank) J. Roehl, age 93, of St. Cloud, MN, passed away on May 9, 2024 at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta, MN from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud, MN. Reverend Derek Wiechmann will officiate. Inurnment will be in Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Frank was born March 22, 1931, on the family farm in New Market Township, MN, to Nicholas and Loretta (O’Connor) Roehl. He married Rosemary Lang on June 7, 1969. He was a 1949 graduate of Lakeville High School and a 1953 graduate of Saint John’s University. Frank completed two Masters’ degrees from St. Cloud State University; an MS in 1968 and an MA in 1975. Frank was drafted and served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. Because of a shortage of teachers, he received an early discharge and began his teaching career in Underwood, ND. Teaching positions in Mabel, MN, St. Cloud Cathedral HS, and SCSU followed. Many memorable and lasting relationships were formed with Cathedral HS students and staff. He retired from SCSU in 1993.
Frank was a husband, brother, uncle, teacher, letter-writer and sharer of family history. Frank was proud to be a founding reader of Central MN Newspapers for the Visually Impaired. He was a long-time member of Christ Church Newman Center, St. Cloud Trollheim Lodge, Central MN Volkssports, Friends of the Library, and many history museums. Frank and Rosemary enjoyed travels to Europe, especially to Norway. Frank enjoyed corresponding with former students, friends, and family. He was an ardent supporter of many local and worldwide charitable endeavors.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Rosemary; sister, Lorraine Zweber of St. Paul, MN; and brother, Thomas of New Port Richey, FL; sister-in-law, Molly (Robert) Roehl of Lakeville, MN and 19 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; baby sister, Jeanette; and brothers, Robert and Gerald.
Memorials are preferred to Parkinson’s Foundation, MN Center Chorale, St. Benedict’s Monastery or Quiet Oaks Hospice House.
