George L. Farnum

January 8, 1922 – September 9, 2010

     Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville for George L. Farnum, age 88 of Paynesville who passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at the Paynesville Area Hospital. Reverend Ric Koehn will officiate. Burial will take place at Salem Cemetery.
     Family and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville and after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the church.
     George was born on January 8, 1922 in Paynesville, Minnesota to Milo and Muriel (Anderson) Farnum. He graduated from Paynesville High School in 1941. He excelled in Industrial Arts. He worked as an aircraft mechanic on the West Coast after which he joined the U.S. Navy during WWII. In the Navy he traveled on the Ohio River and served on a LST landing on Normandy Beach on day two. George married Mae E. Gess on June 8, 1943 at the Lake Koronis Assembly Grounds Chapel. After his discharge he returned to Paynesville and worked in Hawick as a diesel operator for Rural Cooperative Power Association (UPA) for 40 years before the facility was closed down. Concurrently he was a plumber in the Paynesville area and continued that all of his life, giving plumbing instructions within a week of his passing. George loved to travel and tour manufacturing factories in many states. He traveled throughout the United States with Mae and Kevin and later to Norway, Egypt, Grand Cayman, and Africa. He visited all 50 states.
     George is survived by one son, Kevin and his wife, Carlyn of Delano, Minnesota; three, grandchildren, Trevor (wife Jessica and great granddaughters, Ezri and Alia), Chonda Ditsch (husband Peter), TJ (fiancée, Christina); sister-in-law, Charlotte Farnum, many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Mae, parents, Milo and Muriel and brother, Merlyn “Presh”.
     The family of George Farnum acknowledges with deep appreciation your expression of sympathy.
      Relatives and friends are invited for lunch at the fellowship room after interment.
