Gertrude V. Deters

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, June 2, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Waite Park for Gertrude Victoria Deters, 98, of Waite Park who died Saturday May 30, 2009 at Nature’s Pointe Assisted Living at Talahi Senior Campus. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Waite Park.
Friends may call from 9:00 – 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the church in Waite Park. The Christian Women will pray the rosary at 9:30 AM at the church on Tuesday. Arrangements are with the Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud.
Gert was born March 17, 1911 in Brockway Township (Benton County) to Thomas and Frances (Mrosla) Pietron. She married Edwin “Ed” Deters on July 2, 1934 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in North Prairie. They lived in Waite Park their entire married life. Gert worked at St. Joseph Nursing Home and later at Jensen’s Fabric until retiring. She was a homemaker and wonderful, caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Gert enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, and sending her love to family in dishtowels and dishcloths, which beautifully displayed her loving touch. Over the years Gert belonged to Mission groups, Christian Mothers, Waite Park Boosters, and NARFE (National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association.
Survivors include her son and daughter, Roger (JoAnn) Deters of St. Cloud, Joanne (James “Jim”) Friedrich of Sartell, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edwin on June 26, 1967; daughter and son-in-law Jeanette and Roger Host; eight brothers and sisters.
The Deters family wishes to thank all the staff and residents at Talahi Senior Campus, who provided care and friendship to Gert this past year and to Dr. Lindquist, who cared for her in such a kind and supportive manner.
