Our whole family was saddened to hear of Jim’s death. My dad really enjoyed working with Jim at Vandenberg Junior High and my brothers and I loved having him as a teacher. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jean and the rest of Jim’s family.

There are so many things about Jim that are unforgettable and we will greatly miss – his quirky sense of humor, his fun-loving attittude, but most of all the sparkle in his eye that could light up a room. Jim was a generous soul who will be dearly missed.

Mr. Loso was such an inspirational man and probably did not realize how much of an impact he made in his students lives. I know my life would not be where it is today without him. He will be greatly missed and I am deeply saddened that we did not get a chance to say goodbye.

We did not know Jim closely, but much enjoyed purchasing his pottery and speaking with him at art shows. A great loss to our community and Jim will be missed. Our prayers and condolences to the Family.

I will miss Jim. I loved going down to the art room and seeing him there with his diet coke and awesome way he worked with students. He was a true teacher!!

Jim was a good friend of my family and was great to me as I grew up. Every summer I remember visiting my grandparents and always going over to Jim’s to go swimming. He was always smiling and happy. I also looked up to him as he was such a great artist. I know he will be missed dearly and has impacted so many people.

Mr. Loso was loved by everyone that had the pleasure of meeting him. He will be missed.

Loso was a dear teacher and very talented artist. I think about him often and I strive to represent his standards in my classroom and in my art. He will be greatly missed. Please read a memorial I wrote for him here:

Particularly to Jean and Jay, I wish I was able to be there to celebrate Jim’s life this weekend, because the impact he made on me and many others I know is tremendous. He was kind and generous with his time, but even more than that he knew how to push people to get the best out of them. He was truly one of a kind and will be missed. Sending love your way. Jess

A heck of a nice guy and talented artist. I will miss him very much.

Loso was a truly kind heart, and inspirational beyond words. His passing makes me fell a large chunk of my life is now gone. I will miss him dearly, but remember him for a lifetime. As it too often happens, life has been spinning too fast and I now regret not stopping by to visit one last time. I feel blessed to have been so close to such a awesome person and artist. Loso was the perfect definition of a role model for hundreds of young minds. To see him each day for the last six years of my schooling was more valuable than that of any other teacher I have encountered, or ever will. With humor that is untouchable, I feel privileged to have upset him enough to get him to scream at me a time or two throughout my growing years. He never failed to teach me anything that I was willing to learn. Loso also gifted me with the strongest relationship of respect, fear and love combined that is still present in me today. The memories that I keep of Loso make me laugh uncontrollably out loud until I cry. I will miss him terribly until we meet again, where he will be undoubtably be sitting at a wheel, smoking like a chimney and throwing the most beautiful art I have ever witnessed. I can hardly wait to see his creation. Thank you, thank you, thank you for ALL that I have been given from such a gifted teacher.
Much appreciation!!!!

Jim was such a truly down to earth, and thoughtful person, with an awesome sense of humour. We had the pleasure to meet you both here in Northern Ireland and more recently in May past at our son’s wedding in Scotland when Jim, Jean, Jay and Genevieve came over. You and Jean were like second parents to James who enjoyed his summers with you immensely. God Bless.

Many of my happy childhood memories include Jim. Art shows, invitation signing parties, and other festivities. Despite the long periods of time I went without seeing him as an adult, he always greated me with a a generous heart which brought me right back to those joyful days of youth.

Jim was one of the first applicants and always a supporter of the Loring Park Art Festival. His participation and wonderful attitude toward life will be greatly missed. He was a friend we valued. Carol and Phil Haubner
