James D. "Jim" Applegate
May 20, 1927 – October 21, 2011

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, October 24, at St. Mary’s Cathedral Lower Church, for James D. “Jim” Applegate, 84, of St. Cloud, who died October 21, 2011 at the St. Cloud Hospital. The Reverend Scott Pogatchnik and the Reverend Alan Wielinski will concelebrate. Entombment with Military Honors will be in the Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum.
Family and Friends may call from 5:00-8:00 PM on Sunday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud, and after 9:30 AM on Monday at St. Mary’s Cathedral Lower Church. Parish prayers will be at 7:00 PM on Sunday at the Funeral Home in St. Cloud.
Jim was born on May 20, 1927 in New York City, New York, to Lester and Helen (Morrsey) Paul- Applegate. He married Wilhelmina “Billie” Dirschel on June 12, 1946, in Fall River MA. Jim served in the US Navy during World War II. He was a member of the St. Cloud Police Department for 14 years and was employed as a Health Inspector for the City of St. Cloud for 20 years. Jim was an avid member of the St. Cloud Police Department Pistol Team. He enjoyed camping and travelling with friends in the US and Germany. Jim enjoyed many years with his Friday night poker group.
Jim is survived by his wife; children David (Pamela), Barb (Paul) Lenzen, Kathleen “Casey” (Kevin) Kennedy of St. Cloud, Mike (Sue Olson) of Bowlus, Patrick (Nancy) of Waite Park, Nancy Applegate-Nakhleh of Falls Church, VA; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Barbara Ann, brother Tom, and sister Mary Hauge.
The Applegate family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Ridgeview Assisted Living in Sauk Rapids for their kind and compassionate care. They would also like to thank all the friends and family who have given their support throughout the years.
