We had lots of fun times together and I will miss her as will all her friends and family. She was a good friend.
Joanne M. Spanier
September 12, 1938 – August 26, 2011

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville for Joanne M. Spanier, age 72 of Paynesville and formerly of Lake Henry who passed away on Friday, August 26, 2011 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. Reverend Glenn Krystosek and Reverend Gregory Lieser will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Margaret’s Parish Cemetery, Lake Henry.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and after 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville. Arrangements were by the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville.
Joanne was born on September 12, 1938 in Paynesville, Minnesota to Leo and Stella (Hess) Meyer. She was united in marriage to Cyril J. Spanier on June 4, 1958 at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Lake Henry, Minnesota. The couple farmed near Lake Henry for 53 years until retiring in 2011 and moving to Paynesville. Joanne enjoyed being employed as a Tax Consultant at H&R Block in Paynesville for over 20 years and cleaning cabins at Stonegate Lodge. She was a member of St. Louis Parish, the St. Margaret’s Christian Women, St. Anne’s Mission Group, Catholic United Financial and the Lake Henry American Legion Post #612 Auxiliary.
She enjoyed canning, gardening, sewing, crocheting and she especially enjoyed playing cards and board games with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Cyril; children, Darlene (Jim) Schoenberg of Spring Hill, Randy (Sandy) of Lake Henry, Sharon (Larry) Wendroth of Paynesville and Ron (Amy) of Lake Henry; 14 grandchildren, Jill (Cory) Yarke, Jeff Schoenberg, Justin (Ann) Schoenberg, Josh (Courtney) Schreifels, Peter Schreifels, Cory Spanier, Clay Spanier, Tyler, Allie, Tanner and Tucker Wendroth, Sydney and Maxwell Anderson and Luke Spanier; one great grandson, Eli Yarke; sisters, Kathleen Burg of Lake Henry, Mary Ann Bauer of Richmond; brother, Alvin Meyer of Lake Henry.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Spanier family during this difficult time. I enjoyed bowling with Joanne & Cyril, and later seeing her every year at tax time! Her smiling face will be greatly missed.
I love you Grandma. You will be missed everyday. You were an amazing person and i will never forget your kindness and love.
