John E. Held

Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of John E. Held, age 65, of Sartell will be at 11:30 am on Friday, December 17, 2010 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sartell. John died on Monday, Dec. 13, 2010 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in St. Cloud. The Rev. Lauren Germann will officiate.

Family and friends may call between 4-8 pm on Thursday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 10: 30 am on Friday at the church in Sartell. St. Francis Xavier parish prayers will be at 6 pm on Thursday at the funeral home in St. Cloud.

John was born on April 17, 1945 in St. Cloud to Herman and Rose (Schirber) Held. He graduated from Technical High School in 1963. He served in the US Army from 1963-65. He married Marilyn A. Scherer on July 30, 1966 in St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. He was employed in his early years at the family business Gopher Lumber and Supply, later he worked at Nash Finch, owned and operated Knotty Pine Liquor, G.W. Coffee and Tobacco, and Jonathon’s Feast and Libations. He then worked at Evon’s in sales and was currently working at Auto Value. He was a past member and past president of the Sartell Lions, past member of the Sartell American Legion, and a member of St. Francis Xavier parish.

He will be remembered for his love of camping and golf, his quick witted sense of humor and his special skills as a chef.

Survivors include his loving wife of 44 years, Marilyn, children: Cindy (Charlie Emmert) Zinken of GA, Richard of Sartell, Randy of Sartell, Rose (Clinton Foote) Held of St. Louis Park; grandchildren: Amanda and James Zinken; great granddaughter Alexa Hurd; sisters: Alice Mock and Marilee Reilly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dr. William and Thomas; grandson Andrew and great granddaughter Jaidyn.
