Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Joseph J. Matchinsky, age 91 of St. Cloud who passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the Talahi Care Center, St. Cloud. Reverend Thomas Knoblach and Reverend William Gamber will officiate. Entombment will take place at the Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum, St. Cloud.
Relatives and friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Parish prayers will be at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home in St. Cloud.
Joseph was born on March 2, 1920 in Melrose, Minnesota to Frank and Theresa (Kowalski) Matchinsky. He married Esther M. Mettenburg on May 10, 1958 at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Joseph was employed by Powell Hardware and later St. Cloud True Value Hardware for over 40 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish.
Joseph enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren.
Joseph is survived by his children, Michael (Denise) of Stillwater, Mary (Gregory) Smith of Murdock and John (Kristin) of St. Cloud; ten grandchildren; and one sister, Delores Scheuerman of Sapulpa, Oklahoma.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Esther on January 9, 2009; brothers and sisters, James, Mary Killian, Frank, Jr. “Bud”, Dorothy Tieman and Loretta Richards.
