Katherine M. "Kay" Hughes

February 13, 1918 – June 17, 2010

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud, MN, for Katherine M. “Kay” Hughes age 92 of St. Cloud, MN who died Thursday, June 17, 2010. The Reverend Thomas Knoblach will be the celebrant. Inurnment will be in the Assumption Mausoleum, St. Cloud, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Kay was born on February 13, 1918 in New Munich, MN the daughter of Anton M. and Mary (Zenz) Notch. She attended school in New Munich and later attended beauty school in St. Paul, MN. Kay then moved to St. Cloud, MN where she was a beautician at the St. Cloud Hotel on St. Germain Street.

On April 24, 1957, she was united in marriage to J. Brendan “Dan” Hughes at St. Mary’s Help of Christian Catholic Church in St. Augusta, MN. They lived in St. Cloud their whole married life. After Dan died on August 10, 2005, Kay continued to live in St. Cloud, MN. She was a resident of Benedict Court assisted living.

She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Legion of Mary and Daughters of Isabella.

She is survived by: her son Philip of San Anselmo, CA, her two sisters, Bernie Lou Meyer and Lue Mechavich both of St. Cloud, MN, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by: one son Patrick Anthony Hughes, and nine brothers and sisters, Arthur, Agnes, Ann, Loretta, Lawrence, Dorothy, Marie, Joseph, and Margaret.

Hi Phil,
Our thoughts and prayers have been with you – MaryLou called my Mom and Dad on Monday. I have been thinking of all the fun times together with you, your Dad and Mom and our families – in Minnesota and California. I will always remember my trip to Minnesota in 1971 with my grandparents – I was 15 years old – you must have been about 10 years old – Your parents were so much fun – I loved just visiting with them and of course playing cards.
We always loved when you all would come to CA – do you remember going to SanFrancisco in our Ford Station Wagon? When everything settles down, Email us – we should get together in CA. Our thoughts and sympathy to you – I will always miss your Mom and her wonderful smile and laugh.
