Kathleen C. Rodeen

On September 12, 2026, Kathleen “Kathy” Carter Rodeen passed away peacefully after a short illness in Waite Park, MN.

Born August, 1946, to John “Jack” and Myrtle “Gloria” Carter, Kathy grew up along the East Coast in cities like Philadelphia and Rochester, NY, before moving to the Midwest. She graduated from high school in Indianapolis and earned her associate degree. On January 3, 1969, she married Alynn Rodeen, and the couple eventually settled in Elmhurst, Illinois, where they built lasting friendships and raised their family.

Kathy devoted over 30 years to the Social Security Administration, taking immense pride in serving others. Known for her quick mind, sharp memory for facts and numbers, and natural ability to connect with anyone, she truly loved her work. In retirement, she moved to the St. Cloud area to be closer to her family.

A prolific writer, Kathy delighted in sending letters to loved ones and authored her life story, Life in the Pickle Barrel. She cherished family life—whether traveling across the country, making memorable trips to Walt Disney World, or family game nights with Rummy 500, Parcheesi, and Uno. Above all, she treasured her role as “Nana” to her five “little ducklings.”

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Alynn, and her parents, Jack and Gloria.

She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca (Jeffrey) Derr and Kim (Jonas) Daunoravicius; her grandchildren, Madelyn and Ryan Derr, and Gabby, Sylvia, and Harry Daunoravicius; and her siblings, William Carter and Gale McCullough.

Kathy brought warmth to every room with her unforgettable laugh, lively storytelling, and unique pronunciations. Her family takes comfort in these fond memories and in every stylish hat that brings her to mind. The world is a better place for having had Kathy in it.

A family service will be held at a later date at Mount Emblem Cemetery in Bensenville, IL.
