Laverne E. Schmitt

February 19, 1932 – February 6, 2013

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 9, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church for Laverne E. Schmitt, 80, of St. Cloud, who died February 6. The Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Burial will be on Feb. 13 at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday (Today) at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud, and from 9:00-10:00 AM on Saturday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. The Christian Women will pray at 6:30 PM and Parish Prayers will be at 7:00 PM on Friday at the Funeral Home in St. Cloud.
Laverne was born on February 19, 1932, in St. Joseph to George and Christina (Reischl) Court. She married Richard Schmitt on Sept. 16, 1954 in St. Joseph. Laverne lived in St. Cloud all of her married life. She enjoyed embroidery, quilting, bingo, and the occasional casino run. In addition to raising nine children, Laverne worked for Herbergers as a gift wrapper, and Wal-Mart as a greeter. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Parish for 58 years, and was a member of the Christian Women.
Laverne is survived by: her husband Richard; children Sandy (Larry) Rivord, Linda (Gary) Baltes, Karen O’Hara, Mark (Kathy), Paula (Scott) Ziehl, Dale , Doug (Jessi), Glen (Brenda); 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother and sisters Adeline Hartung, Katie Worm, Mike Court, Fran Court, Arnie Court, Betty Eiynck, and Arlene Gill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Amy Schmitt, Daughter-in-law Shelly Schmitt, grandson Zachary Schmitt, sisters Rose Stockinger, Lorraine Janssen, Irene Maruska, and brother Leonard Court.
Laverne’s family would like to extend thanks to the St. Cloud Hospital Nursing staff for taking such special care of their Mother.

Brenda & Glen, We are thinking and praying for you during this difficult time. I only know to well what you are going through when you lose your mom. Its heartbreaking and there are no words that can really comfort your in the heartache you are feeling. Just know that your mom lives on within you and she loved you with all her heart. Memories last forever.
