Lawrence P. "Larry" Ostendorf

August 10, 1926 – May 7, 2012

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph, for Lawrence P. “Larry” Ostendorf, age 85, of St. Joseph, who passed away on Monday, May 7, 2012 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Reverend Alfred Stangl will officiate. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery with military honors.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday (TODAY) and after 12:00 noon on Thursday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Parish prayers will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Larry was born on August 10, 1926 in St. Anthony, Minnesota to Frank and Henrietta (Rademacher) Ostendorf. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Larry married Jeanette Vogel on August 26, 1952 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Throughout his life he owned and operated several businesses including, hauling cattle, farming, bulk milk hauling, was a rural mail carrier, and then co-owned Mid-State Wholesale Tire until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, the St. Joseph American Legion Post #328, and St. Joseph V.F.W. Post #5573.

Larry enjoyed spending time on his son Duane’s farm, fishing, traveling in their motorhome and wintering in Arizona. He especially treasured the time spent with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette; children, Don (Pat Tiemann) of Albany, Sharon of Albertville, Duane (Linda Lieser) of Boyes, MT, Floyd (Tresa Gohmann) of Avon, and Lee (Ella Kumorowicz) of Alexandria; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Dorothy Walz of Apple Valley, Boniface of Hibbing, Mary Ann Kalla of St. Cloud, and Elmer of St. Anthony; and many nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Frances Bock, Beatrice Pfau, and one brother Arnold.
