Leo J. Sadlo

September 28, 1922 – November 18, 2009

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph for Leo J. Sadlo, age 87 of St. Joseph who passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by his family. Reverend Joseph Feders, OSB will officiate. Entombment with military honors will be at the parish cemetery mausoleum.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday and after 12 Noon on Tuesday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Joseph. The Senior Citizens will pray at 4:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 6:00 p.m., the St. Joseph Fire Department at 6:30 p.m. and the St. Joseph Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5773 and American Legion Post #328 at 7:30 p.m on Monday at the funeral home.

Leo was born on September 28, 1922 in Browerville, Minnesota to Joseph and Lucy (Deering) Sadlo. After the death of his father he was raised by his mother and stepfather, Joseph Poplinski. Leo was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He married Dorothy M. Bentz on June 25, 1947 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Browerville. Leo lived in St. Joseph most of his married life. He was employed as a Power Engineer by the Order of the Sisters of St. Benedict for 35 years retiring in 1987. Leo helped organize and was the first Chairperson of the Home and School Association, he helped start and was the first President of the City Planning Commission. He served as the City Treasurer and as a City Councilman. Leo was a twenty-year member of the St. Joseph Fire Department. He was a member of St. Joseph’s parish, Senior Citizens, St. Joseph Rod and Gun Club, American Legion Post #328, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5773, a charter member of the St. Joseph Lions Club and the Scouting Commission where he served as Assistant Scout Master.

Leo is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Kathleen (Roger) Marinich of Kingsford, Michigan, James (Diane) Sadlo of Round Rock, Texas and Jean (Jerome) Salzer of St. Joseph; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, and brother, Louis.
