Leo L. Dinndorf
October 14, 1921 – June 12, 2008

Leo L. Dinndorf, age 86, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, died peacefully on June 12, 2008. A Memorial Mass celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Friends are invited to visit at the church after 9:30 a.m. on June 18. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery in St. Cloud, with full military honors, following the service.
Leo was born on October 14, 1921 in St. Cloud to Peter and Catherine (Siebert) Dinndorf. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, in the European theatre, from 1941 until 1945. He married LaVerne Steckling on July 20, 1946 in St. Paul. They lived all their 61-year married life in St. Cloud.
Leo was a professional painter and co-owner of Dinndorf Paint and Wallpaper Co. in St. Cloud. He retired in 1983. He was a long-time member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 961, VFW Post 428 and the St. Cloud Painter’s Union.
Leo was an exceptional athlete in his younger years, captaining St. Cloud Cathedral’s football and hockey teams in his senior year. Throughout his life he enjoyed woodworking and took great joy in making various ornaments, gifts and novelties for his family and friends. He also enjoyed the opportunity to be with his family regularly.
Leo is survived by his sons Doug (Jan) of Vadnais Heights and Dick (Judy) of Hugo, grandchildren Kari (Wally) Buffalo, Ryan, Brad and Katie (Jim) Taylor, great grandchildren Abby and Leo and brother Jim Dinndorf of St. Cloud. Preceding Leo in death were his parents, wife LaVerne (Feb. 21, 2007), brother John, and sisters Rita Dinndorf, Louise Barrett and Margaret Dinndorf.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the staffs at The Comforts of Home assisted living center and the Benedictine Health Center at Innsbruck for their loving care and support. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
