Leona C. Mehr

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m on Monday, August 25, 2008 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville for Leona C. (Miller) Mehr, age 87 of Paynesville who passed away on August 22, 2008 at Mother of Mercy Nursing home in Albany. Reverend Charles Kunkel, OSC will officiate. Burial will be in St. Martin’s Parish Cemetery.

Family and friends may call between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville and one hour prior to services at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville on Monday. Parish prayers will be 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Leona was born on December 25, 1920 in Spring Hill, MN to Joseph and Catherine (Nietfield) Miller. She married John M. Mehr on November 18, 1940 in St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Spring Hill, MN. She worked on the farm with her husband north of Paynesville for many years. She enjoyed quilting and sewing, flower and vegetable gardening, and spending time with family and friends. Leona belonged to the St. Martin Christian Women, Daughters of Isabella, St. Benedicts Rosary Society, Crosier Apostolate, and Mission Circle.

She is survived by her children; Roger (Veneel) of Twin Falls, ID, Betty (Harvey) Toenies of Mora, Ralph (Ann) of Paynesville, Janice (Bill) Schoenberg of Hancock, Ruth (Bill) Heitke of Paynesville, Karen (Gene) Thul of Alexandria, Louise Mehr (Rick Haines) of Cold Spring, Joyce Strodtman of Denver, CO; 25 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Armella Eveslage, and brother, Fr. Joseph Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John in 2003; one infant brother; three infant sisters; sisters, Sr. Mary Gordian, OSB, Juliana Miller; brothers, Fr. Henry Miller, and Mathias Miller; grandson Brian Barten; and son-in-law. David Barten.
