LeRoy J. Notch

July 5, 1933 – January 28, 2007

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2007 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville, for LeRoy Joseph Notch, age 73 of Paynesville, who passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2007 at his home.  Rev. Virgil Braun will officiate. Entombment will take place in the St. Louis Parish Mausoleum with full military honors.

Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, at Daniel-Andersen Funeral Home in Paynesville with parish prayers conducted at 7:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue at 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the church.

Roy was born July 5, 1933 in Melrose, MN to Leo and Rose (Herzog) Notch.  He graduated from Melrose High School in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1959 after eight years of service in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve.  On June 6, 1959, Roy and Mary Brand were married in Rosemount, MN.   Roy received his Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud State University in 1962 and taught Industrial Arts in the Paynesville school district for 27 years before retiring in August of 1989.

Roy took distinct pleasure in his teaching and enjoyed watching former students excel in fields taught by him.   Roy was a true master craftsman and displayed combined talents in metalworking, woodworking, modeling, construction, needlepoint and building replicas of historical firearms from scratch.   He was also fond of the outdoors, traveled extensively via automobile and has visited every state in the continental United States.  His dedication and love for his wife Mary, his children and grandchildren was remarkable.

Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (1990) and is survived by his four children, David of Hastings, MN, Paul of Seattle, WA, Tom of Waconia, MN and Anne of Belgrade, MN, nine grandchildren and brother Jerry of Hutchinson, MN.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

My thought and prayers are with all the kids. You were great neighbors and I will never forget some of the great times Anne and I had. I never knew what people went through when they lost a loved one till I went through it myself. Take care!!
