Mary Kaye Gross

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud, for Mary Kaye Gross, age 79, of St. Cloud, who passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026 at her home in St. Cloud. Reverend Derek Wiechmann will officiate. Entombment will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. prior to services on Thursday at the Church. Arrangements are with the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud.

Mary Kaye was born June 26, 1947 in St. Cloud to Richard and Marie (Bisping) Schmitt. She graduated from St. Cloud Cathedral in 1965. Mary Kaye worked for Northern States Power (later Excel Energy) for 35 years until her retirement in 2000. After retiring, and because of her social nature, she worked part-time for a few years at Cashwise service desk. Mary Kaye married Donald Gross on October 12, 1974. They were married for 44 years, having two children they were very proud of in every way.  She was a member of the St. Cloud Eagles Auxiliary Aerie #622, St Cloud All City Marching Band, mission group, and the Whitney card group.

Mary Kaye enjoyed playing cards, chair yoga, was an avid bowler, loved puzzles and embroidery and was actively involved in Energy Services Federal Credit Union in the role of secretary. She was very social and enjoyed visits with family, especially her granddaughters, relatives, neighbors, and her very special group of high school friends Kathy, Nancy, Lois, Mary Margaret, Judy, and Sister Pat.

She is survived by her children, Karin (Kirk) Anderson of Fargo, ND and Aaron Gross of Blacksburg, VA; granddaughters whom she adored, Kathryn “Katy” and Hannah Anderson; siblings, Tom (Jan) Schmitt, Harvey (Mary) Schmitt, Brenda (Jerry) Sosinke, Lois Schmitt; and her companion Jerry Schneider.

Mary Kaye was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Donald in 2018.
