Phillip J. "Hillbilly" McDermond

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for Phillip J. “Hillbilly” McDermond, age 68, of St. Cloud, who passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at his home.

Hillbilly was born on June 18, 1958, to Donald and Donna (Richter) McDermond in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He grew up in the St. Cloud area and held various jobs through out the area. He worked for Frigidaire for over 25 years, Sentinel Printing over 15 years and eventually retired from Performance Seed at the beginning of 2026. He began his family with Constance M. “Connie” Malmanger on May 15, 1986; they eventually separated after 13 years together. He then began his family with his loving partner, Jeanne Sabania, with whom he spent the rest of his life.  He was an avid outdoorsman who loved going hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He also enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles and later in his life, when he could no longer drive, he began working on and riding bicycles. He will be remembered for his love of family, his hardworking nature, his boisterous voice, good sense of humor and love of a good shot of Blackberry Brandy.

He is survived by his father, Donald; children, Paige (Gregory) Glenn, Crystal Malmanger and Kevin McDermond; step-children, Robbie Bremer, Becky Bremer and Tiffany Sabania; grandchildren, Abigail, Grayson, Aubrey, and Annalise; four step grandchildren; significant other, Jeanne Sabania; former significant other, Connie Malmanger; siblings, Vince McDermond, Donnie McDermond, Judy Loch, Theresa Richter and Michael (Angie) Richter; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Hillbilly is preceded in death by his mother, Donna.
