Father we shall miss you greatly. You were my rock as a small child. I will never forget all that you had done for me and my family. You were a great man. All of us from sacred heart in staples will have hearthelt memories to charish of you for as long as we will live. May you rest in peace.
Reverend Leon Martin Slominski
June 27, 1932 – March 22, 2013

Reverend Leon Martin Slominski was born June 27th, 1932 in St. Cloud, MN. He was the son of Leo and Ann (Schmitt) Slominski. Father Slominski attended Holy Angels and Saint Mary’s Grade Schools, Saint Cloud, MN, high school and philosophy at St. Lawrence Seminary, Mount Calvary, WI. He received his Major Seminary training at St. John’s Seminary, Collegeville, MN. Father Slominski was ordained on June 7th, 1958 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Saint Cloud, MN. by The Most Reverend Peter W. Bartholome. He celebrated his First Mass on June 8, 1958 at Saint Mary’s Cathedral, St. Cloud, MN.
Father Slominski served in the following assignments: associate pastor, St. Ann’s Church, Wadena, June 1958-June 1965; pastor, St. Ann’s Church, Brandon, June 1965-June 1971; Sacred Heart Church, Glenwood, and St. Bartholomew’s Church, Villard, June 1971-July 1980; Sacred Heart Church, Staples, July 1980-July 1989; St. Wendelin’s Church Luxemburg, July 1989-July 2003; Father Slominski retired on July 1st, 2003.
Father Slominski served as Dean of the Alexandria Deanery from 1977-1980.
Father Slominski died on March 22nd, 2013 at Saint Benedict’s Senior Community in St. Cloud.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, March 27th, at 11:00 AM at the Church of St. Augustine in St. Cloud. The Most Reverend John F. Kinney presiding. Burial will be in St. Wendelin’s Parish Cemetery in Luxemburg. Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 26th between 4:00-8:00 PM at Mary Hall in Luxemburg. There will be a vigil service at 7:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday morning after 9:30 AM at the Church of St. Augustine in St. Cloud.
Father Slominski is survived by one sister, Sister Suzanne Slominski OSB, Sauk Centre. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Marjorie Krause and Anetta Slominski.
