Richard D. "Dick" Bastien

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2008 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Richard D. “Dick” Bastien, age 81, of St. Cloud, who passed away peacefully with family at his side on July 22 at St. Benedict’s Center in St. Cloud. Burial will take place in Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud with full military honors.

Relatives and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday (TODAY) and after 9 a.m. on Friday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Parish Prayers will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Dick was born February 13, 1927 in St. Cloud to Walter and Crescent (Tenvoorde) Bastien. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1944 – 1946 in the Pacific Theater. He married Genevieve H. Sleevi on August 29, 1946 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis. He was a master craftsman as a mason all of his life. He owned and operated Dick Bastien Masonry. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, VFW Post 428 and St. Cloud Eagles Aerie 622.

Dick is survived by his wife Genevieve of St. Cloud, children Richard, Jr. (Mary) of Monticello, Michael (Judy) of St. Cloud, Robert (Cyrene) of Silver Creek, John of Clyde Park, MT, Cathy (Duane) Murray of West Des Moines, IA, Carolyn (Robert) Merten of St. Cloud, Marilyn (Maurice) Miller of St. Cloud and Joan Bastien of St. Cloud, 23 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and brother Thomas (Willa) of Santa Fe, NM.

Preceding him in death were his parents, infant daughters Barbara Rose and Mary Ann, infant son and his sister Mary Madvig.

Memorials are preferred to the Poor Clares Monastery, Centra Care Heart Center and St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
