Richard H. Arnold

February 28, 1931 – August 6, 2006

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Richard H. Arnold, 75, of Avon MN will be on Wednesday, August 9th, 2006 at 10:00 AM at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Avon who died on Sunday at his home as a result of an automobile accident on May 26th, 2006. Rev Eugene McGlothlin OSB will officiate. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call between 4:00-9:00 PM on Tuesday (TODAY) and on Wednesday after 9:00 AM at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Avon. Parish Prayers will be at 4:30 PM followed by Eden Valley American Legion Post 381 at 6:30 PM.

Richard Arnold was born on February 28, 1931 to Martin and Helena (Hueser) Arnold. He graduated from Eden Valley High School in 1950. He joined the United States Marines Corp in 1951, Company B, First Battalion, First Regiment, First Marine Division; He served in the Korean War, was wounded in battle, and received the Purple Heart. He married Rose Mary Brisse on June 18, 1955 at St. Peter & Paul’s Catholic Church in Richmond. Richard worked at Swift Inc., farmed in Luxemburg Township, worked at Minnegasco, and then worked at the City of St. Cloud as a Heating Inspector for 25 years, which he retired from in 1994. Richard loved to travel, he visited 49 states, and 14 countries, with his loving wife of 49 years. He loved the outdoors, made maple syrup every spring, loved his children, grandchildren and his great-granddaughter. He respected the earth and was a naturalist. Richard loved to play cards, tell stories and jokes, write poems and was an upbeat person to be around. He was a member of the St. Benedicts Catholic Church, a member of the Eden Valley American Legion Post 381 and a member of the Catholic Aid Association for 50 years.

He is survived by his children and their spouses: Thomas (Patricia Lehn) Arnold, St. Cloud; Cheryl (Milan) Foster, Avon; Charles (Rebecca Smith) Arnold, Avon; Joseph (Shawn Dudley) Arnold, Avon; brother Phillip Arnold, Eden Valley, sisters Genevieve (Elmer) Lies, Eden Valley; Marcella Weber, Richmond, Helen Steinke, Fridley; sister-in-law Leona Arnold, Pine City; brother-in-law Kenneth Brisse Fridley, grandchildren: Nick, Isaac, Abigail, Elizabeth, and Theresa Arnold, Lisa, Megan, and Krystine Foster, Bonnie and Joshua Arnold, Breann Schlangen, Claire and Zachary Arnold and their mother Verna Arnold; and great-grandchild Ruby Marie Arnold.

He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Helena Arnold, his loving wife of 49 years Rose Mary Arnold who passed on July 31, 2004; his brothers: Henry, Albert, Romauld, Marcus, Florbert, and Elmo, his sisters Isabelle Johnson, Teresa Binsfeld, Laura Loch, and Cecilia Colbert, grandchild Nathaniel Foster.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Brisse, Robert Loch, Bruce Weber, Nick Arnold, Joshua Arnold and Zachary Arnold.
