Monica and family: We are so sorry to hear about Bob. We remember fondly the Friday Night meat raffles at the VFW 428 and how much fun you all had. Sometimes half your family would be there. With Jeff bartending and Katie selling raffle tickets it was a family affair. We miss seeing you.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Robert C. Zinken, 81, of St. Cloud who died Saturday at the St. Cloud Hospital with his family at his side. Bob fought a courageous battle with cancer. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Entombment will be in Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum.
Family and friends may call between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Monday and after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Parish prayers will be held at 5:00 p.m. and the St. Cloud VFW Post 428 will pray at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Bob was born on January 7, 1930 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Leonard and Kathryn (Yunger) Zinken. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Army during the Korean Conflict . Bob received a foreign education in cook and baker school in Korea. He married his high school sweetheart, Monica Holovnia on January 27, 1951 at St. John Cantius Catholic Church. Bob worked as a Brakeman/Conductor for Great Northern and later Burlington Northern Railroad for 38 years. He was a member of St. John Cantius Parish and the St. Cloud VFW Granite Post #428.
Bob’s favorite thing was spending time at his lake place with his family. He also enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing, woodworking, cooking, gardening and his trips to Laughlin.
Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Monica of St. Cloud, children; Sandy (Bruce) Florek, John, Bob Jr. (Ruth) all of St. Cloud, Mark (Michele) of St. Joseph; 14 grandchildren, Jason, Jeff and Katie Florek, Shawn, Brian, Danny, Michael, Megan, Bobby, Becky, Stephanie, Andy, Abby, and Faith Zinken; five great grandchildren; sisters, Kathleen Glunz of Buffalo and Joyce Danzl of St. Cloud; and sister-in-law, Deanna Zinken of Richmond.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step father, Louis Hartneck; sister, Elaine Berg; and brothers, Joseph, Leonard Jr., Ralph, James, Willis “Bill”, Albert, Thomas and Jerry Zinken.
Bob’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the St. Cloud Hospital who took part in Bob’s care, the Coborn Cancer Center and especially Deb Corrigan.
