Robert J. Shumway

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis for Robert J. Shumway, 97 of Sartell and formerly of Minneapolis who passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Country Manor Health Care Center in Sartell.
Robert was born on December 10, 1913 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Walter and Mollie (Opdahl) Shumway. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Service in the Philippines. Bob graduated from the Minnesota School of Business. He was employed by SuperValu for 30 years as an accountant. After his retirement he worked part-time as an accountant at Jerry’s Supermarket in Edina. Bob lived in Minneapolis until moving to Sartell in 2001.
Bob enjoyed playing the banjo for over 75 years and entertaining the residents of Country Manor. He was an avid sports fan, especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
Survivors include his daughters, Jan Madsen of St. Cloud and Kathleen Matar of Phoenix, Arizona; two granddaughters, Melisa Boie and Natalie Matar; three great grandchildren, Zachary, Megan and Cameron Boie.
