Roger H. Sondag, DDS
March 31, 1918 – December 16, 2010

A Full Celebration of Life for Roger H. Sondag DDS, 92, will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 2405 Waldon Way, St. Cloud, MN 56301. Roger died on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at The Wellstead of Rogers. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., Mass at 10:00 a.m. and lunch to follow. Burial with honors, next to his wife will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Roger was born on March 31, 1918, in New Ulm, MN to Joseph and Antonella (Meidl) Sondag; although he spent most of his life in New England, ND. He married Dorothy E. Hanlon in 1943 in Gainesville, FL. Shortly after he was shipped to Marseille, France during WWII, receiving the European Theatre Ribbon with two campaign stars and a Bronze Star for meritorious service during the war in Europe. With the GI Bill, he enrolled and graduated from Northwestern Dental College in Chicago in 1951. After graduating he was sent to Pusan, Korea to provide dentistry and medical service, receiving a Medical Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster. Upon returning in 1952, Roger, his wife, and daughter Patty, headed to Moorhead, MN where he set up his dental practice where Bob and Judy were born. He was trustee of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 4th Degree Grand Knight, golfed at the Moorhead Country Club, and owned a cottage on Pelican Lake where he loved to fish and spend hours in his huge vegetable garden “specialty was dill pickles.”
In 1971, Roger and Dorothy retired to Crescent City, FL, where Roger bought land that originally was an Indian citrus grove on Crescent Lake. They returned to MN in 1988 settling in Plymouth, by family. After Dorothy’s death, Roger married his highschool sweetheart, Ardyce Zempel Winchester in 1997.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Dorothy; sister, Donna Rose; and brother, Clayton.
He leaves behind his second wife, Ardyce; children, Pat Fillmore of St. Cloud, Robert Sondag of Maple Grove, Judy Sondag (Steve Peterson) of Arden Hills; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and brother Ade.
Memorials are preferred.
