Roman Jacob Wolke

May 11, 1923 – December 15, 2010

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, December 20, 2010 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Roman Jacob Wolke, age 87, of St. Cloud, who passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the St. Cloud V.A. Medical Center. Reverend Alan Wielinski will officiate. Entombment of cremated remains will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the Church. Parish Prayers will be held 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Funeral Home.

Roman was born May 11, 1923 in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota to Fred and Mary (Kengen) Wolke. He served honorably in the Unites States Navy from 1943 until 1946. Roman then married Margaret D. Sakry on October 15, 1945 in San Diego, California. He was employed by Nash Finch for 10 years and then as a Life Insurance Salesman and a Staff Manager with Prudential for over 30 years. After retiring he worked as the Gambling Manager for the Waite Park American Legion Post #428 until he was 85. Roman was a member of the Eagles Aerie #622, Eastside St. Cloud V.F.W. Post #4847, Waite Park American Legion Silver Star Post #428, and St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

Throughout his life he was very active in the St. Cloud area Youth Hockey, enjoyed golfing and wintering in Arizona. Roman especially treasured the time he spent with his family and was considered by his family as the world’s best story teller.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Margaret; children, Mary Jo (Hollis) Hinnenkamp, Thomas (Mary) Wolke, William (Anne) Wolke, Susan (Jim) Tomczik, Patricia (John) Hoff, Michael (Brenda)Wolke, Carrie (Don) Schirmers, and Robert (Donna McCurdy) Wolke; 21 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

Roman is preceded in death by his parents; and ten brothers and sisters, Alma Wahlstrom, Marcelyn Hurd, Loretta Mace, Angela Fenske, Richard Wolke, Bernard Wolke, Agnes Perry, two infant brothers, and one infant sister.

A Special Thank You to the Staff at both the St. Cloud Hospital and the St. Cloud V.A. Medical Center for the wonderful care they provided to Roman.

To Tom & Mary – Hi – We get the neews out here in the NW and just read of your farther Tom who I never met. I knew you came from good stock and reading of him proves it. I worked with Mary’s father Raligh years ago at HW in St. Cloud and already knew she’s the best. My deepest sympathy to both of you in regards to losing parents.

Good visiting with you at the last reunion

I am so glad I got to meet Roman and the rest of the Wolke family. He is the family hero and will be missed by everyone who was a part of his life. RIP Roe – you are truly an angel!

Grandpa you are missed by so many. You were the best grandpa a girl could ask for! I will never forget all the wonderful storys you would tell. I will see you again someday! We love you very much
