Shirley M. Sizer

September 10, 1935 – March 9, 2009

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Shirley M. Sizer, age 73 of Backus and formerly of St. Cloud who passed away on March 9, 2009 at the home of her daughter in St. Cloud. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Burial will be at Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud.

Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Arrangements were by the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud.

Shirley was born on September 10, 1935 in Long Prairie, Minnesota to Elmer and Veronica (Vollmer) Determan. She married George C. Sizer on July 26, 1953 in Gardner, Montana. Shirley lived in St. Cloud most of her married life. George and Shirley owned and operated Idle-A-While Resort on Long Lake 2 near Backus since 1965. She enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling, going to the casino and spending the winters in Texas. Shirley especially enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family.

Survivors include her husband, George; children, Maria Sizer of Clearwater, Susan Bell of Clearwater, Deborah (Steven) Plafcan of St. Cloud, Lisa (Randy) Vait of Clearwater, Peter Hilger of Sauk Rapids and Jerry Hilger of St. Cloud; eight grandchildren; four great grandsons; two sisters, Ceva Monti of Lemoore, California and Marilyn Murphy of Wadena; and brother, Frank Determan of Monticello.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sandra, grandchildren, Cody and Skyla Plafcan and Justin Friedman; brothers, Jerome and James; sister, Nancy Keller; and son-in-law, Jon Bell.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

I remember all the fun times at Shirley’s house and up at the cabin. What I remember most about Shirley was how kind and nice she was. She always made me feel welcome and that meant so very much to me!! I will always hold those memeories of Shirley and her kindness in my heart. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.
