Steve was in my (and Craig’s) academy class (194) at Dallas PD. He had a great sense of humor, and was the source of many smiles. I still quote one of his jokes, which I credit as the best one-liner, ever.

A crusty old-head was teaching us about street-survival; some pretty gritty stuff, and we took it seriously, because soon our lives would depend on it. At one point, he asked, “What’s the best way to illuminate a darkened room, when you don’t know if there’s somebody inside, who might want to kill you?” We were all giving it a moment’s contemplation, and Steve quietly said: “Muzzle-flash.”

The entire class lost it, including the instructor.

Happy trails, old friend.

Dave

Steve was a friend back in Dallas, nice guy.

We are praying for comfort for all of his friends and family. Steve was a friend/barber for my husband. He came to my husband’s dad’s funeral. He cut his hair, also. He was a very caring person. Elroy and he liked to talk about their motorcycles and he helped us one time when the cycle wouldn’t start in Cokato. We are totally shocked and saddened to hear about this loss!! We have been trying to contact him, but did not know where he lived and only had the shop number. We knew he had cancer and were hoping to support him in his battle.
We failed. We are so deeply sorry for your loss. Our daugher lives in St. Cloud and we hope to visit him at Calvary Cemetery. God’s strength and peace to all of you. He won’t be forgotten—-

So, so sorry to hear about Steve. I have fond memories of him growing up on Rhode Island! Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. John and Karey (Hildahl) LaCrue
