Susan Caroline Shawley

Susan Caroline Shawley, age 67 of Avon, Minnesota, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the St. Cloud Hospital on January 15, 2024.

Memorial Services celebrating her life, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Deacon Steve Yanish will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud.

Susan Caroline Hiltner was born in Melrose, Minnesota, the second youngest child of Edwin Benedict Hiltner and Rita Marie Rose. She grew up in Freeport, Minnesota, attended Sacred Heart School in Freeport and graduated from Melrose Area High School in 1974.

Susan married Leon Koopmeiners on September 14, 1974 at Sacred Heart in Freeport, MN. They raised three daughters together and later divorced. Susan then married Richard Shawley on August 27, 2004 in St. Cloud, MN.

Susan offered loving care to children as a Daycare Provider for over forty years in her home near Avon.  Sue was gifted with an ability to see the best in children and to make them feel safe and loved. She kept in touch with many of her daycare families over the years.

Susan enjoyed crafting with friends, cooking, flower gardening, spending time at the cabin, playing cards, shopping for deals, and trying new things. She loved hosting family get-togethers, as well as lunches and dinners for friends. She always made time to not only support her grandchildren, but to also laugh and have fun with them. Susan’s laugh was memorable and heard often.

Susan will be lovingly remembered by husband, Richard of Avon; her three daughters Robin (Jeff Kremer) of St Joseph, April (Jody Huls) of Cumming, Georgia and Nikki (Matt Klohr) of Avon; sister and brothers: Mary Ayers (Doug Porteous) of Toronto, Ontario, Peter (Hyon So) of Saint Roberts, Missouri and Leon (Tammy Stewart) of Alexandria; grandchildren Emma, Livi, Anna, Harvey, Edwin, Rita and Bricen.

Susan was preceded in death by former husband Leon Koopmeiners; parents Edwin and Rita (Rose) Hiltner; grandparents Peter and Agatha (Hoeschen) Hiltner and Herman and Theresia (Benolken) Rose.
