Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home Chapel in Sauk Rapids for Verlan P. “Dick” Dickison, 84, of St. Cloud and formerly of Waite Park who passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Pastor Don Wilke will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Little Falls.
Family and friends may call between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the Good Shepherd Chapel. The St. Cloud V.F.W. Granite Post #428 along with the Waite Park America Legion Silver Star Post #428 will pray at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Dick was born on January 4, 1926 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to Clarence and Emma (Nyman) Dickison. He was a WWII veteran serving in the US Navy from 1944-1946 stationed in Hawaii. He married Shirley J. Alm in 1947 in Sauk Centre and they raised five children. He married Eileen Harren in 1999 in St. Cloud. Dick was employed as a mail carrier for the postal service for 33 years. He also worked as a bartender in the Waite Park and St. Cloud area for many years. Dick was a member and congregational chairman at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post #428, a lifetime member and past two term commander of the Waite Park American Legion #428, past president of the Waite Park Booster Club, Spass Tag volunteer, and member of St. Cloud Eagle’s Aerie #622.
Dick enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the community and his family. He loved fishing, polka music, casino trips, Zubaz pants, the Twins and a good laugh. Dick treasured time with family.
He is survived by his children; Marsha (Leon) Pietrzak of Sauk Rapids, Grant (Donna) of Rochester, Gwen (Tom) Snell of Cokato, Janelle Philippi of Cokato, Jodi (Robert) Martins of Waite Park; 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; former wife, Shirley Dickison of Waite Park; special friend, Vera Evanson of Sauk Rapids; and brother, Dale of Sauk Centre.
He was preceded in death by his parents; second wife, Eileen in 2005; brother and sister-in-law, Carroll and Helen in 2007.
