He was a great neighbor on Sag and will be truly missed by all.

One of my friends from the bnsf😀rip my friend

Without question e have lost a true friend in Phil Sakry, not just one who be counted on with a helping hand but a kind word as well. Since we received that dreaded phone call from Jean that Phil had passed away, we have spent many hours recalling all those fond memories spent with Phil and Jean. From the almost year round fishing on Mille Lacs to summer and winter trips to Saganaga. Our annual winter trip to Mexico to escape the historically coldest week of the Minnesota winter.

After recalling all the meals shared, all the meals shared, all the trips, fishing and otherwise, the one thing that keeps coming to mind is that in all those years Phil and I never had what some might refer to as a bitter argument. Debates were had but they never became personal attacks.

Real friends are few, far between and had to come by, so the next time you’re navigating up the Sag channel, think a good thought about my good friend Phil Sakry.

Jean, I am so sorry to read that Phil died. He was just too young.. I do remember the two of you as young sweethearts; such a handsome couple you made. Life tosses us around and around, but it goes on even in sorrow. You will see Phil again and hopefully find joy peace in the meantime. Those grandchildren of yours must bring you joy conti ually. You have my deepest sympathy. Mary Jo (Loso) Beuning.

The world is a much less interesting place without Phil in it. He was a one of a kind guy. I have always thought of him as a great friend even when not in touch for long periods. That’s the kind of person he was. One who made a lasting impact. My deepest sympathy to Jean and family.

We are saddened to hear of Phil’s passing. Many stories….my dad always enjoyed the time in the boat with Phil as they took turns guiding each other to the walleye bite. Sag will miss you. Bless the memories.

Phil represented the quintessential love and appreciation of the northwoods. He instilled that love in his family. He was a quiet fixture on Saganaga Lake and will be dearly missed. My prayers for his family is that they can find comfort in the fact that his suffering is over. My prayer for Phil is that his has now moved on to a new and productive fishing spot.
